(/thoughts) Winter is officially here!

/thoughts winter edition has been pre-released ready for a mail out. Its official release date is Jan 1st.
I recieved a handful today and I'm finding it hard not to go through spotting mistakes!! 2 typos so far!

It has been produced on coated glossy paper instead of the usual uncoated stuff that defined the brand of the magazazine in it's original issues. I don't like it but it has been recieved with a mixed reaction from those who have seen it. I think it is because we requested it be printed on recycled paper.

Its nice to have it ready for my Research Project hand-in on the 8th!
I would like to do a focus group with the target demographic and publish this before the deadline.

"The 24-7, instant culture" - Focus Group 1

I have been concentrating mostly on the PRP (Personal Research Project) ready for the deadline in the new year.
I am currently typing up the findings of the focus group on Monday night. The main topics of discussion were

  • The change into a 24-7 instant and monotonous society
  • The changes between neighbourhood communities
  • The ever shrinking global village
  • Attitudes towards community at work
  • The changes since women working
  • Entertainment
  • and Changes in love and relationships

This will contribute towards the research portfolio accompanying the magazine

BBC News articles for Research

I have found a few good articles relating to online communities on the BBC news site. Click here to read the article - "Rise of the web's social network" which is an interview with head of Bebo.

Also a very interesting one that will quote for the security of such sites - "MySpace to 'block sex offenders' ".

Milk07.com website planning meeting

The milk07.com and .co.uk domains have been aquired and hosting set up with emails - so now you can email me at huw@milk07.com!! How posh!!

Anyway, had a meeting today with the 'squadron leaders' (Quote -Dave Allen!) as well as those who are involved with the website. Simon Perkins joined us to give his expert insight into what the site should look like.

The meeting was very productive and I think that those who are building the site took some good information and tips away. I believe the site is very important because it is what sponsors as well as people attending will check first after recieving info about it.

Some people believe we should have a poster style as the first thing people see when accessing the website. I disagree, i think there should be a number of very clear options for people to choose as well as the basic information about whats going on, at the time of the show and also stuff thats going on before. Being a multimedia course, I don't think we can settle for an all singing, all dancing clever site. Its a shame no one took it on as a client project.

Fashion Show DVD

ON SALE NOW!!!
The fashion show DVD that compound made for the 2nd year students is currently being pressed and printed! 40 have been ordered so far at £4 per DVD.

We are very excited about the feedback that we will get from the students those who see the film. It is a 40 minute documentation of the evening's events and also features photos from the night. The money raised in sales of this project will cover costs and be put into running costs of future compound projects and the final year exhibition.

With special thanks to Sam off fashion for the opportunity to work on this project and also a massive congratulations to James Woods who project managed this venture as well as editing and producing the final product.
