Would Jesus have a MySpace? Well erm....

In the Guardian on Thursday (Jools gave it to me!), as part of the media suplement there was an article written about a project run by the Churches Advertising Network (CAN), which having looked at the site turns out to be re:jesus. I have done some work for this charity in the way of an advert and emergingculture have close links to them.

It would be really cool to line an interview up with re:jesus or CAN as I think this is a really good way of spreading the message, embracing youth culture and using tools like MySpace and the internet well. I do feel too that this could be the start of something bigger and it could develop to really understand community better: "Jesus" has 985 friends so far!!!

Lost on MySpace? I am!

2 episodes of Lost, which is an obsession with my flatmates and probably most other people around will be shown on MySpace.
It raises the question of "will these sites be where people go for everything. Maybe soon it will be where people shop, meet, chat, watch TV, socialise, everything.
This is really interesting for my research project because we are keen for our /thoughts website to be where the youth society to go for all their Christian stuff. Music, chat, culture, articles... everything!

SHAM (e) !

Posted on the CR-blog website, is a video apparently from 1996 where on the David Letterman Late show of what looks much like The Sony BRAVIA Balls advert.

It is reported that this is what Fallon (Producer) took as inspiration yet why have we not heard anything about it before? They won several awards including a lot for the concept of the advert.

However, ironically, Tango who made a spoof of the balls advert used fruit to achieve their advert. The David Letterman Show clip uses not only balls but melons and other foods!!

Having had a meeting with a select group about the final year exhibition, we decided on a branding for the entire project and ultimatly the exhibition with all publicity and products leading up to it.

Above is the logo that we chose having looked at several weaker designs.
I think that this has a lot of potential to be developed and used in different ways but it may not completly shout the word Milk. It also fails to incorperate the words 07 or .com which isn't the end of the world

We also finalised the sponsors information pack which details the contracts that will be drawn up when funds are raised.

Interviews

Have just finished typing up interviews with Kev McGlade (29th Chapter) and Andy Frost (Emerging Culture). They have some really cool stuff in them and it really gives something to the entire project... online soon

In terms of the research project on the whole, things are progressing well. The magazine is almost done and will be going to print on the 11th of December, and research into online communities etc. is developing.

Milk announced

Milk has been announced as the name for our Final Year Exhibition. It was met with mixed reaction yet most agree it stays away from the geeky and heads towards a querky marketing campaign.

Someone came up with getting tetra-pak milk cartons printed with our branding to send out to companies so that they can put it on their desks.

I am very happy with the name and I am confident that it is an easy marketing campaign. My job however has been defined as sponsorship and marketing and I will be managing that group as well as attending meetings with the equivelents of each sector.

Bring it on!

Dots animation

I have been thinking about the dots image below and have had an idea to create an animation using this technique. A close look would see the dots varying in size yet step back and there is a larger image moving around on the screen. The dots give so much depth to an image I think it would be easy to create a great short movie and is something that I've never seen before.

What compound.me.uk is all about!!!

What compound is all about:
We'll be getting flyers with the following statement printed onto them!

During the final year of Multimedia Production BSc at The Nottingham Trent University students are expected to complete a client project. And so the brief was set - to create a multimedia company in Nottingham that produced quality media to those on a budget and so compound was born! The meaning of the word compound is to bring more than one thing together, we combine several types of media as well as being a collaberative project between 3 students - Joanne Lewis, Huw Tyler and James Woods. It also means to improve something and we hope to develop our portfolio as well as making a mark on the media industry. If you would like to get in touch with compound about work, please email:

Doodle for Google

The Doodle4Google winning entry was unveiled today on the front page of google.co.uk
That means that 18 million people will see Katherine Chisnall's (age 13) work!
That is an aspiration for any designer! And at 13 there aren't many who can say that their work has been seen by that many people.

Its a great project too. Having a live project in schools is a really great idea and I hope that art, graphics and creative subjects embraced it and brought it into their curriculum. I read in No Logo about corperate brands in schools and how kids were working out the perimeter distance of an Oreo cookie or playing basketball Nike-style and this isnt dis-similar. However, This is a great oppertunity for any young person and one that I hope they offer to students or under 25s!!!!

I think the winning design is brilliant and really captures the similar ideas to that of the google holiday logos. Appart from that it is brilliantly drawn and the bold blocky colours work well. The genius of hit however is not to replace to many letters in the original logo but to creativly work around it.

Well done Katherine and well done Google!!!

(Product) Red

In January 2006 The Global Fund identified that Rwanda would the first country to receive aid from(Product) Red. This money was raised by selling products, nothing like coloured wristbands or even their own product.

They have teamed up with some leading brands to develop their products. Then, by encouraging people to have these 'ethical' products a cut of the profits is sent to help the fight against Aids in Africa.

Not only are these leading products, they are iconic to our time. Converse, iPod, Motorola mobile, Gap t shirts and accessories and more have a simple twist that makes them different - they are all Red! Then, these brands sell their own special product on their site with a link from the (Product)Red site - its a win-win-win situation, The brands get another version of their product that isn't meaningless and of course giving consumers a reason to buy them, (Product)Red get money to help a cause, the cause benefits and the consumer who now loves to show that they are helping the world (no more so than the present day with the surge of wrist bands and the idea of buying a goat!) are getting their favourite brands and feel like they're getting their moneys worth. But is this just cashing in on the growing economy of fair trade and wanting to help? Who cares - its a win-win-win situation!!!
