Altitude - Trent Dance DVD

Above is the video that compound (+Ben Spray and Abid Khan) filmed at the union a few weeks ago. I edited this footage (both cuts from my camera - 1st and 2nd night) as a trailer. This appears on Facebook and YouTube.

One night, the camera was held still in order to get a full show that we knew was solid and then the second night I vaired the shots with closeups etc.

New Analystics

I recieved an email the other day from Google saying they had a new analytics engine. So i logged on to check my stats to find a totally new interface, new tools (at least new as far as I knew, i found them this time!) and such clear easy to use layout...

Love it!

Report Read through

Have just spent the afternoon reading through the draft of my Client Project evaluation report.
I was fairly happy with what I had written and marked some changes. The bits left include

- Plans for the future
- Inputing images to colour the work
- Quotes from clients and independant onlookers
- Research into real-world companies
- Work with the rest of the group to contextualise the document
- And a conlclusion.

After this, it will be the basic end to compound except the presentation at the Milk07 exhibition. It will truly be a sad time. I have enjoyed and benefited from working and being with the team. I will miss working with them!

Compound never looked this good!

Thanks James for his thoughtful remix of my biog video that compound created for the proposal presentations! Apparently there was inspiration behind this but you'd better ask him about that!!! Here is the original, I really like the way it has been put together, just hate the fact I sound like a muppet!!!

Compound hand in

The compound team handed in a box containing all the projects completed within the year. It was a very proud moment and the three has spent all night working on presentation.

Feedback has been posative.

PRP on hold

My Personal Research Project is currently on the back burner until the Client Evaluation has been done. I have also been busy with Easter People planning (see below) and the spring edition of /thoughts. I will start the Summer07 issue shortly too.

I did however, get part of my conclusion published in the very magazine that the project was based upon and it challenged readers to commit to their community.

Here is the page:

Easter People

I have just returned from an awesome week at Easter People in Blackpool.
There I was heading up the creative / acoustic venue with Sarah Frampton.
Here are some photos...
The room was much darker than they suggest (becasue of the flash)

Set-up: The get in finished as the venue opened!

Stage

Some of the awesome artwork produced in the week

Acoustic set by Myspoon on saturday night

The brief of the room was to start black andd white and colour would flow into it as the week progressed. The exhibition wall flourished, the graffiti wall filled and the easels were all painted.
Success!

/thoughts spring released

The new issue of /thoughts magazine was released a couple of weeks ago. It has recieved loads of cool feedback and many say it is the best issue yet and it seems to be improving every issue.

It was also really nice to have a proper meeting with the production team and not over emails, phone etc.

Above is the logo that I have been commissioned to design by Methodist Youth Conference which is being held in my home city, Cardiff. The theme for the conference is the abolition of slavery.

The graphic above the text symbolises a broken chain to symbolise the theme and also incorperates a speech bubble that enforces that this event is a conference for young people to converse.

The next step is a flier and other publicity material.

Further thought on "Facebook in Business"

Something that I learned today from the networking that is related to my research project is the use of social software within business.

(See below)

Continuing from my post on the 22nd of Feb, I have noticed that often the main referer to this blog is facebook. I have a link to this blog and our compound website on my personal profile.

Will facebook become the new school tie?

Facebook in business

Something that I learned today from the networking that is related to my research project is the use of social software within business.

I met a guy who uses facebook as a networking tool. Within hours of leaving the event yesterday, I had a friend request from one of the guys we 'networked' with. We saw him again today and he said it is an effective way of keeping in touch in business.

This will appear in my evaluation of my research project.

Thirst for life brainstorm!

Having received the brief and other documents for Thirst for Life Stings, we sat down and conceptualised ideas, storyboarded and did some paperwork. We did it at James' home and it was so nice to sit in the countryside, in the silence, chill out with tea in a different setting.

We realised it was going to be tough to the amount of stings but will be so satisfying once done.

Business Days

Compound has just taken almost 2 days away from official work to learn how to be a business! The business side of compound is defiantly the weakest aspect of the company and it has been an interesting two days. We attended flying start, a day of networking in learning run by the government, inspiring entrepreneurs. It was a great day and we all learnt a lot.

Joanne and I also attended the Thirsty Thursday event run jointly by Notts Uni and Trent and is a similar event of networking. They also had two presentations from two science based newly established companies.

Success!

Thirst for life brief aquired

Thirst for life: www.thirstforlife.org is an awareness campaign for alcohol in Britain and challenges people of all age, everywhere to go for 40 days without booze! The campaign which is due to draw thousands of people starts on Wednesday and there are a few of us joining in off our course and from Church!!!
The prospect of no alcohol is a big thing and shows how worthy the cause is and Jo (compound) felt strongly enough to create some new stings for the campaign. So we wrote to them and pitched our proposal. So look out on next year's campaign for the compound stings. Story boarding starts on Wednesday!

Progress Report

So here is what is going on in my working life at the moment!

Work continues on /thoughts spring - This is the first issue to have made a profit, Alleluia!!
I have around 6 pages left to design and then it will be almost ready to print, artwork deadline is the 18th of March!

I am also very busy with the planning of Easter People but guests are very enthusiastic about attending which makes my life easier!

Milk07 gets more and more stressful everyday but having talked to my flatmates about their similar issues with their product design exhibition, we don't seem to be the only ones battling to put on a decent show!! However, an email was sent cancelling all lectures and seminars! We quickly sent an email too, countering this decision in order to get some stuff done and sell some tickets. Fundraising seems to be going well, but with a lack of hours that we can put in, corperate sponsorship is very difficult. We are hoping to get a quiz sold to everyone very soon!

The pace of the client project has accelerated!! We filmed and edited our E4/esting competition entry this weekend. Despite the equipment we had being terrible, we love the idea and are happy with the result. Watch this space for the entry, it should be up after March 10th. I am working on a 3D of a local bar, Jo has finished our Audio project and James will be concentating on Thirst for Life stings.

There is a deadline tomorrow, requiring us to submit a CV in order for lecturers to look at and give feedback on. I will post the CV as soon as it's ready!

Update!

I am aware that I have neglected this space a little recently but I would like to assure you that this is due to the large amount of work and not that there is so little that I have nothing to say about it.

In the last two weeks there has been a lot of progress with Milk07, the exhibition at the end of the year, and feedback meetings with client and research projects. I will be writing an article in the Spring edition of the magazine as part of the conclusion to the project.

We had a group meeting with compound the other evening over a bag of chips. It has been decided that channel4/estings was being put to one side for the moment while James concentrates on re-editing fly for the De:pict competition, Jo will be editing a bungee video, creating documentation and starting an audio project for an animation. I will be working on the 3D visual of part of the student's union.

The next magazine has also been started and I am very busy with organising the creative worship venue at a major UK Christian conference.

See you soon!
