(Product) Red
In January 2006 The Global Fund identified that Rwanda would the first country to receive aid from(Product) Red. This money was raised by selling products, nothing like coloured wristbands or even their own product.
They have teamed up with some leading brands to develop their products. Then, by encouraging people to have these 'ethical' products a cut of the profits is sent to help the fight against Aids in Africa.
Not only are these leading products, they are iconic to our time. Converse, iPod, Motorola mobile, Gap t shirts and accessories and more have a simple twist that makes them different - they are all Red! Then, these brands sell their own special product on their site with a link from the (Product)Red site - its a win-win-win situation, The brands get another version of their product that isn't meaningless and of course giving consumers a reason to buy them, (Product)Red get money to help a cause, the cause benefits and the consumer who now loves to show that they are helping the world (no more so than the present day with the surge of wrist bands and the idea of buying a goat!) are getting their favourite brands and feel like they're getting their moneys worth. But is this just cashing in on the growing economy of fair trade and wanting to help? Who cares - its a win-win-win situation!!!
